Here is an excerpt from a dsicussion about Marriage as an impediment in attainment of  a higher level in a Sai Baba discussion forum on yahoo groups. I like the following responses-
It is well said.  Marriage is a part of Karma.  It was a story of my own experience and I am not sure whether it will guide anyone to think of what happened.  I had determined not to get married in my life.  It was fine quite for sometime.  If you have a good company of friends, associates or environment you may never feel getting married.  The thought of avoiding marriage is different than not thinking of marriage.  It can happen with company and lifestyle.  At the end of completion of my studies, I was just roaming around Madras City.  I used to have at least 20 good friends.  I spent most of my time in USIS,  British Council and occasionally visiting Ramkrishna Mission at Mylapore.
I believe it was a coincidence that I left Madras to a remote place as I had accepted a teaching job.  That I believe a part of destiny or Karma played.  There in a small town most of my friends.  The reason I brought up this was to show that I was a misfit in a social life in that environment. Spending time in a small club and other instances did not leave me a feeling of alone.
Hope you can imagine the rest of the story.  I got married, moved out of that town, settled in USA and now have grand children.  All my thoughts, philosophy incuding the influence of Sri Ramakrishna to Sartre were folded down.  There were instances in my life where I wanted get out of the family and live in wilderness.  According to this society  norms and material life, I had successful life so far.  Now I am retired.  My reminiscences may not be any useful.
